BREAK-AWAY ADVENTURES AFRICA
MOTORCYCLE TOURS IN SOUTH AFRICA

Johannesburg to Cape Town 10 Day Tour

Tour Itinerary and Overview

We ride an average of 300 km’s a day during our motorcycle tours in South Africa. (The exact km’s between destinations are in the summary of the tour itinerary). 70% being on tar, and 30% being on very good condition gravel road.

We have chosen this particular tour route, as it is vastly diverse – it gives the impression of travelling through many different countries – not just one!

South Africa covers 1,228,376 square km’s in area – this is bigger than FIVE European countries put together!

After our first night at a Guest house in Gauteng, we ride out into the Highlands of the Eastern Free State, our second overnight stay is at the village of Clarens.

This quaint village in South Africa has become known as the “Jewel of the Free State ” rich in beauty with an aura of peace and tranquillity.

After a hearty breakfast, we gently meander along the border between South Africa and the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho. Riding through the grassy plains of the Free State – the agricultural centre of S.A – heading for the largest river and dam in the country – the Orange River which feeds into the Gariep dam.

Here we over-night at a Game Lodge, and take in a Game drive where we can view Zebra, Kudu, Eland, Reedbuck, Springbuck, Ostrich, Waterbuck, Impala and more, followed by a Sunset Cruise on the Gariep Dam.

Riding through the Karoo – we head for Graaff Reinet, it is not called the “Gem of the Karoo ” for nothing!

This little “Gem” lies in the middle of the Karoo National Reserve – this historical 19th century rural town is shadowed by the mighty wonder of nature – The Valley of Desolation!

A trip up there, late afternoon will take your breath away!

We take a walk through the Graaff Reinet museum, where we can view, amongst others, scenes of early 19th century Graaff Reinet, and an interesting collection of fossils from the Karoo – the oldest of them dating back more than 200 million years ago!

Baviaanskloof Wilderness Area, is next up. This World Heritage Site, an area that has not yet been discovered by tourists, and is one of South Africa ’s best kept secrets! To cap this awesome area, our evening meal will be a typical South African braai (barbeque) and we will be over-nighting in comfortable “caves”.

After the rugged and awe-inspiring Wilderness, we head for Knysna – one of the biggest Tourist Attractions in S.A! The atmosphere here is a buzz of activity, warmth and friendliness!

Here we stop over for two days, for either lazing on the beaches or partaking in the many activities and places of interest Knysna has to offer.

After a relaxing or activity filled two days, whichever way one chooses to spend in Knysna, our motorcycle adventure tour takes us to the centre of the Klein Karoo, the “Ostrich-Feather Capital” of the World, and World renowned Cango Caves – Oudtshoorn, A trip through the Cango Caves, one of the World’s greatest natural wonders, sculpted by nature through the ages, will ensure a memorable stay!

A visit to the Cango Ostrich Show Farm gives a “hands on” experience where you get to stand on the eggs, or if daring enough – ride an ostrich!

On to Montague, the heart of the famous ROUTE 62! The longest wine route road in the World! This scenic route shows off magnificent landscapes and fertile valleys. South Africa ’s leading Wine regions are found along here. A trip to a Wine Estate will complete our stay here.

And then……….. The Grande Finale………. The ride into Cape Town via Hermanus – The World's best land based whale watching spot. We take some time at the Whale lookout point – where we may be lucky enough to spot these truly magnificent creatures in their famous playwaters!

With the glistening Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Magnificent Mountains on the other – we hug the scenic coastline into Cape Town !
