BREAK-AWAY ADVENTURES AFRICA
MOTORCYCLE TOURS IN SOUTH AFRICA

Western Cape Tour Overview of Itinerary

We ride an average of 318 Km’s a day(the approx. km’s between destinations are in the summary Itinerary).70% being on tar road and 30% being on good condition gravel road.

Day One

We leave Cape Town and head for the charming little village of Franschhoek, nestled between towering mountains, in the heart of the beautiful Cape Wine lands, via the Spectacular Franschhoek pass.

Winding up and down over Du Toitskloof we flatten out onto the World Famous Route 62 “ The longest wine route in the world!”

Riding through the Wine Valley we will stop at two exclusive Wineries.

Up the Cogmans kloof, with all its geological faults and folds, into one of the most picturesque towns in South Africa – Montague - which is our first overnight destination.

The evening is free to relax and enjoy supper in one of the many quaint restaurants in this pristine town.

Day Two

After a relaxing evening, we continue along Route 62 – turning off onto gravel road and riding over the Rooiberg Pass into the center of the Klein Karoo – Oudtshoorn – The ‘Ostrich Feather Capital” of the world, and the World Renowned Cango Caves.

A trip through the Cango Caves, one of the Worlds greatest Natural Wonders, sculpted by Nature through the ages, is the highlight of our stay in Oudtshoorn.

Time permitting we may visit an Ostrich Show Farm.

Day Three

We head out for the 27 km long Swartberg pass – considered one of the finest Mountain Passes in the World! A gravel road that winds to the summit 1583 meters above sea level in steep zigzags and sudden switchbacks with breathtaking views at every turn!

This pass was declared a National Monument in 1988.

We push through Meiringspoort, with its soaring cliff walls and spectacular rock formations, winding our way along the floor of the gorge and down into Prince Alfreds Pass – this is a challenging, beautifully scenic 74 km pass, after which you will have well deserved your evening beverage of choice in Knysna!!!

Day Four

After the previous days spectacular passes, we continue on tar and eat up the km’s, down to the Breede river mouth, and back up on gravel over the Breede river, where we load our bikes onto a ferry to get across, then on towards the Southern most tip of Africa – Cape Agulhas!

This windswept, ruggedly beautiful coastal plain is where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet.

Day Five

Our last day, we hug the scenic coastline into Cape Town, stopping over at Hermanus – The Worlds best land based whale watching spot. We take some time at the Whale lookout point – where we may be lucky enough to spot these truly magnificent creatures in their famous playwaters!

With the glistening Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Magnificent Mountains on the other – we arrive back invigorated and knowing we have had the ride of a lifetime!
